Give Your Husband Grace to Grow

Grace believes the best about your spouse. It fights through the messiness of a particular moment or behavior and remembers that your spouse is a son of the Most High King. Marriages thrive on gracious reactivity. Grace is not saying the other person is right. Grace is not letting the other person off the hook. It is loving someone unconditionally and giving them the benefit of the doubt. Grace is “choosing” to be loving even though you know the other person wronged you. When we show grace to our spouse, it's about showing kindness even when they don't deserve it. Grace is going out of our way to give compassion, kindness, and love to your husband even if he might not appreciate it or return the favor. The principle effect of the grace serves to strengthen a couple's unity and deepen their love and affection so that their loving service assist them in growing closer to God. Grace is an enabling power” (“Grace”). It enables the recipient to do and to be what he or she cannot do and cannot be if left to his or her own means. All of us need such an enabling power. We are the sons and daughters of God. “Marriages thrive when there is a constant overflow of grace.” Its. Not about being perfect! We all sin and we all fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). That’s okay. That we fail is much less important than what we choose to do about it. It’s important to not only accept the responsibility for what we choose but also to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). Being called to live up to the ultimate example of Jesus’s grace is a big task, but every step closer fills us with more love and every step brings strength and depth to our marriages. Thankfully, when we mess up, His grace is still given freely to us (Romans 3:24). Just as His grace is given freely to us when we mess up, we should readily extend that same grace to our husbands.
